"As it were small, ugly, paradoxical, singular throughout, Parisians, always quick to judge men only by the appearance, you are made of Toulouse-Lautrec an idea brief, a schema.
He was a prisoner of a formula. The words GNOME, dwarf, Bohemian Montmartre, are turned out by Sun under the pen of necrologisti, and expressed only one side of this nature has been misunderstood, in spite of the many misfortunes, noble-hearted as he was by birth. "
(L.n. Baragnon, Obituary, in "La Dépeche", September 9, 1901)
