I Capuleti e i Montecchi/Catania 2014

Catania, October 27, 2014

Vincenzo Bellini's melodies are like flowers ready to bloom. Bloom anywhere, under any conditions, in any time, as long as you respect the art that generated them. And respect for art has been the watchword of the staging of masterpiece "I Capuleti e I Montecchi, staged the October 27, 2014 at the teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania. The Swan partria could not have been otherwise. Admittedly though, these melodies would need overall more vital lymph to bloom in all its splendour…

The great orchestra of the theatre Carpenter gave the best, with its unmistakable colour and sounds that echo in a place that appears to be dedicated to the genius of Etna. Driving the Maestro Fabrizio m. Campbell, who directed with a firm hand, but with a gloss sometimes too dazzling, especially in the Symphony. For the rest, there were too few of our honeymoon and acceleration of philological attention and support, the interpreters.

Romeo and Juliet in this work have to have vocal characteristics, even though both women, decidedly opposed. It wasn't the case of Rosanna Savoy and Belfiore, which would have necessitated the first ring pattern and yarn smoother and the second serious well supported and more robust projection, especially in fusion of duets. Nonetheless, both correct and expressive they save in Bellini's opera, weaving rugged followed closely by all the other performers, including the excellent Hairor of Maurice Muscolino.

Medium-strong/heavy, monotonous on choir directed by recent purchase Gaetano Costa, who could bring out those colorful, those piano and pianissimo for which the excellent professionals in Catania, if well directed and coordinated, they definitely stand out. Hopefully a more intense feeling, everything still to be modular, with the new Choir Director.

Directed by a routine, sometimes controversial tracts in the unfolding of the action and in changes to open scene of Ori David, in a setting by Salvatore Tropea sometimes a little’ naïve as to graphic quality of the projections. Pleasing Dora costumes silver, hopefully to develop the lights of Savior.

Lukewarm applause…but you know…the belliniani convinced, despite the rain, everyone at the theater, in fairness and respecting labour and difficulty crossing from Catania …and please them is never easy for anyone.
