Riccardo Muti conducts Gala Verdiano – Busseto

By William Fratti – At the Teatro Verdi, a charity gala in favor of Villa Verdi in Sant'Agata, in the wake of “Long live Verdi” of the Ministry of Culture.

Riccardo Muti, honorary citizen of Busseto, returns to the small casket of the Verdi theater to direct a beneficial gala in favor of Villa Verdi in Sant’Agata, exciting and concrete testimony of a unique musical heritage in the world. The concert is part of the wake of Long live Verdi, the initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Culture for the acquisition and enhancement of the composer's home.

The Gala Verdiano It is a special appointment organized by the Ravenna Festival, in collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipality of Busseto and for all those attending it is a real Christmas gift. As usual Muti He manages to get the accents and colors out of the score who surprise as if it were the first time and guide with paternal do - with the same rod used to direct Falstaff in 2001, then donated to Barezzi House Museum - his Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra, who lavish himself in precise and refined sounds, and the good Choir of the Municipal Theater of Piacenza prepared by Corrado Casati.

Visibly excited, the soprani Elisa Balbo, Rosa Feola and Juliana Grigoryan, the mezzosoprano Isabel De Paoli and the tenor Giovanni Sebastiano Sala, elegantly lavish in the precious execution of some of the most touching Verdi pages, each without betraying their vocality, in total respect for a well finished with taste and style. Of great class the interpretation of Luke Micheletti and Riccardo Zanellato, clearly more accustomed to the Verdian repertoire, skilled phrase, never parks of accents and above all very generous.

At the end of the show Riccardo Muti - in apologizing not to have a encore ready and in promising to return to Busseto soon - he speaks to the public in defense of Verdian philology, as he did in 2001 at the end of the general test of Falstaff.
