SIMONE BESTINI makes Volterra dream with NOVECENTO – Review

SIMONE BESTINI makes Volterra dream with NOVECENTO – Review by Natalia Di Bartolo- The poetic magic of Baricco on the stage of the Roman theater-

Dreaming of floating in the hill of the immense Virginian steamer, sitting on the piano next to the legendary twentieth century I think it is the dream of all the baric readers…Slide to the sound of music on the lucid floor of the rich cruise ship, while the ocean is in complete rebellion…A feeling that was felt in Volterra day 11 August 2019, when to stage "Novecento", in a show between acting and reading, was the actor and director Volterrano Simone Migliorini.

Thus the poetic magic of Alessandro Baricco, free from evoking the splendid Tornatore film, born many years after the International Festival of the Roman theater of Volterra gave life to this theatrical production, for the first time, despite the acts repeated over the years, has landed on the equally magical stage of the Roman theater of Volterra, a natural seat of the Festival, designed and chaired by the same Migliorini.

In this way, listening to the Tuscan actor, flanked by David Dainelli who performed his original music on the piano, the public, who crowded the audience in a well -deserved sold out, was once again able to dream of navigating, dancing, to go back in time and become small, like that senator who traveled in third class in order to listen to his not "normal" in that area of the ship.

Between the dream and the reality, between prose and poetry, the story hung itself fluid from the lips of the interpreter, accompanied by its own direction, aware and polite, never intrusive, in a suggestive scene of antiques and portraits of a time that was.

And so, in the middle of the vocal virtuosity of the interpreter, the vocal stamp of the trumpeter narrator of the poetic history of the pianist on the ocean suffered by surprising metamorphosis; Sometimes enthralling, sometimes persuasive; It multiplied in one, two, one hundred, a thousand characters, in all passengers of that legendary ship. The voice of the Migliorini was transformed, into a game of chiaroscuro that only a great actor knows and can implement. And the viewer, fascinated, at times let himself be kidnapped by that voice, magical like everything else, and closed his eyes, did not look, listened only to the narrative and the music that accompanied it, floating with them and with the ocean they evoked.

Great suggestion, therefore, in this beauty closure of the XVII Festival 2019, characterized by quality productions and an illustrious parterre as regards reward and guests of the evening shadow prize. But above all a great test of an actor, who makes you want to look at and listen more often to Simone Migliorini on the stage, to see the productions of the Festival on stage more often and more often rejoicing of the genuine, suggestive art of theater, the real one, the one made above all of voice, music and soul.
