Some of the most famous masterpieces of the great Francesco Hayez (1791-1882) will be on display in Milan at Italy ’ galleries in Piazza della Scala from November 7, 2015 at February 21, 2016.

In collaboration with the Academy of fine arts And the Brera art gallery, by Milan, and the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice, the exhibition, curated by Fernando Mazzocca and with the overall coordination of Gianfranco Brunellicollects approximately 120 works the artist.

The exhibition follows a chronological succession, which recalls the life together and the creative path of the great painter: the formative years between Venice and Rome, still under Neoclassicism until the affirmation, in Milan, as the protagonist of the Romantic movement and the Risorgimento next to Verdi and Manzoni, which has contributed to the cultural unity of Italy.

The sequence of works, including the best-known masterpieces alongside others presented to the public for the first time – previously unreleased thecombination of three versions of Kissreveals the greatness of Hayez in mastering different genres such as history painting and portraiture, mythology, sacred paintings and a scope then the rage as Orientalism, until reaching the compositions where wins the female nude, in a powerful sensuality that makes unique in the panorama of Italian and European Romanticism.
