The great mezzosoprano Elena Obraztsova died on January 12, 2015 in Germany at the age of 75.
The repertoire of the great Artist featured over eighty parts from classic and modern operas. She performed on the world’s most famous opera stages, including La Scala, Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera and others. Her extensive concert repertoire featured pieces by over a hundred 18th-20th century composers, including operas, chamber and church music, Russian songs, old romances, classic operettas, and jazz compositions.”
President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the family and friends of Elena Obraztsova and all the admirers of her talent following the opera singer’s death.

As officially announced on the Mariinsky Theatre website, Josep Carreras is going to dedicate the premiere of El Juez, his debut at the Mariinsky in Saint Petersburg, to the memory of the great Opera singer, whose funeral will be celebrated in Moscow 15th january 2015.
