The story of a rebellious slave Spartacus and Gladiator in ancient Rome, is of undoubted charm and of course, between the various versions in which it has been imagined, represented, reinvented, the ballet is among the most engaging.

The eponymous Ballet, to music by Aram Kachaturian, is so arrived at teatro massimo Bellini in Catania, going on stage in first performance on June 7, 2016.

Audience of the first as usual staid, not particularly numerous, maybe even the performances almost right off of La Sonnambula, but eager to Opera and Ballet, as well as justly waiting to enjoy an evening not only for music, but also dance.

Really great music that of Khachaturian, who in his strength primarily narrative manages to contain surging and passion as well as a stick to a post 19th century following a long and glorious tradition without betraying it nor detract from it.

At the helm of the orchestra of the Bellini, reinforced on the staff, the master Norbert Baxa, who directed with great mastery a score purposefully peppered with brass and percussion sounds sound varied. In this connection, a note of praise to the sections of the great orchestra.

On stage a dance troupe from the Czech Republic, well fed and well coordinated.

Rough and dark scenes, lights well tailored, some ingenuity in props, including banners and signs, but all in all forgivable to an ensemble of notable a production that gave credit to the tradition of dance in the Czech lands.

The show, which has received unanimous approval from the public, concluded with an evening very pleasant in every respect the first part of the Opera and Ballet Season of the teatro massimo in Catania, which will resume in October.
